Short Notice ~ But When Did “Our Side” Ever Plan Ahead?
As you can see from the screenshot above, there is a Rally scheduled for this Saturday, Jan. 19th, to Protest the newly signed NY gun law. Info for the Rally is below:
THE WEATHER WILL BE VERY NICE TOMORROW, 1/19! 40 DEGREES, SLIGHTLY CLOUDY
PARKING, MEETING PLACE, AND SPEAKER INFO:
There is a lot of on street parking all around the capitol, and there are several parking garages and small lots within walking distance of the capitol building. Drivers, please consider dropping your companions off at the Rally site prior to parking the vehicle.
Where: NY State Capitol – Capitol Building, State Street, Albany, NY 12230
When: High Noon, Saturday Jan 19th 2013
The organizer of this event will be positioned in front of the capitol building in view of the stairs. This is a good place to meet as we can spread up and around the capitol building as our numbers increase.
SPECIAL NOTICE (found in comment stream on Facebook page)
WTEN Update: If you’re attending, be sure to watch out for these road closures -> SATURDAY ALBANY ROAD CLOSURE: South Swan Street between State Street and Washington Avenue will be closed to all vehicular traffic Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013 between 10:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M.
Northbound South Swan Street traffic will be diverted onto State Street eastbound to Eagle Street
I have a google map link in comments on this post – please use that to familiarize yourselves with the area around the Capitol Building.
FRIENDLY REMINDER: There can be NO WEAPONS OF ANY KIND ON STATE PROPERTY. (Unless they are off duty law enforcement, then they can carry CONCEALED ONLY.)
City property allows CONCEALED CARRY ONLY.
Albany PD is closing Swan Street for us, so that people can remain on city property and still see and participate in everything, even if they are carrying.
THE SIDEWALKS AND STREETS ARE CITY PROPERTY. THE PARK IS STATE PROPERTY.
Let’s also remember to leave Albany cleaner than we found it! Please dispose of garbage appropriately. I’m sure there will be flyers etc. handed out at the event. We urge you to TAKE THEM WITH YOU! Also, please take your signs home with you as well! Let’s make a GREAT impression, even after we’ve left!
We got the permit to hold the rally in the park! We won’t be limited to just the sidewalks! HOWEVER, IF YOU ARE GOING TO BE CARRYING A HANDGUN, YOU CANNOT BRING IT ONTO STATE PROPERTY, YOU MUST STAY ON THE CITY SIDEWALKS! And as was announced earlier, you must carry concealed, not open, and NO LONG GUNS PLEASE. Let’s make this a peaceful, powerful statement and have it go on without incident. We are counting on you!
YES WE WILL HAVE SPEAKERS!
As of now we have representatives from Oath Keepers, Assemblyman Steve Katz, and Senator Kathy Marchione that will be speaking.
There are a few more speakers that are unable to confirm at this time due to scheduling conflicts, but they still may attend. Check blog comments for update to this list.
New York Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement Act is the official title of this new law. The “SAFE Act” for short.
Sadly, the citizens of the state being affected by this law had no chance to read or comment on it prior to it being signed by Gov. Cuomo.
As was our right. We are supposed to have three days. We did not even have three minutes.
We owe it all to Cuomo.
As of now, according to the wording of this new law, any one owning a gun in NY appears to be a criminal. Oh sure, the Gov. admits that there are some technicalities that must be addressed – don’t let that trouble you though, those only apply to the Police of NY, and he’ll fix that.
Recall that a few short days ago we were legitimately law abiding citizens. Purchasing and using our firearms lawfully and responsibly. Now we are all the potential mass murderers, the perpetrators of senseless massacres. We have all become Enemies of the State.
Legal Insurrection has the full law up for those who would like to develop a quick headache trying to understand what has been done to us. Link to Legal Insurrection embed of the new gun law . The funniest part is that if you call the Governors office to ask questions about this new law, they HAVE NO ANSWERS, but refer you to reading the law “online”.
I tried that experiment myself, so I can state that honestly. I spent thirty minutes on the phone with one of the Governors telephone attendants – she kept saying, “I have to take other calls”. She had absolutely zero understanding of the SAFE Act, and could not answer one question correctly.
Perfect weather is expected tomorrow, just the thing for a rally with friends! Please, if you can make it ~join us.
