Principles, Protection, Patriotism, Perry

spoke so sincerely, eloquently and from the heart, that I had to copy it over here and feature it. Please take a moment, even if you are not a fan of Perrys’ in particular, to read what I consider a very patriotic and moving point of view.
I can see the vicious attacks on Governor Rick Perry escalating right now. Far, far more from talking heads and republican establishment politicians than his “low poll numbers” could ever warrant. It’s like Sarah Palin all over again. Can we stand to lose yet another?
One of my Facebook friends who is liberal to the extreme actually posted a political comment today (mocking Republicans) that I had to agree with. The gist of it was that after all this time complaining about Obamacare, Republicans are now so foolish that they are on the brink of nominating the man who put Romneycare in place. She wondered if we should maybe do a little soul searching and get ourselves figured out–and she asked if Republicans still stand for anything.
And I had to wonder–what do we stand for? It’s like Republicans–conservatives most of all–are purposefully trying to self-destruct. We looked foolish when we defended Herman Cain (again and again) for his remarkably poor understanding of foreign policy. We looked foolish when we turned on a dime and went all in for Newt Gingrich–after dismissing him months before for his untrustworthy views on global warming (among other things). Then we looked foolish yet again when we threw our support behind Rick Santorum–after ignoring him from the start because of his lack of executive experience and questions about how he would fare against Obama (because, like Bachmann and Cain, he just seemed to be running for the sake of running–not to actually win).
And now…now!…we are on the verge of throwing support to Mitt Romney–a man who would have been totally irrelevant in the political world if not for his millions. Its his money that has allowed him to stay in the political game, not some great skill at leading. After failing to win the nomination in 2008, he had years (years!) to take a leadership role in the Republican field. But he did not. It has been people like Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin who have railed against the policies of Obama and rallied us Republicans to fight against them. (There have been others, of course–but my point is that Romney has not been among them. Well, not until after he had tested the political winds.) This is my biggest problem with Romney. If he had used these years to be a leader–to take a stand when it mattered–his inconsistencies through the years and his weak explanations for policy decisions in Massachusetts would not matter. He’s had all this time to show us who he is. And all he’s shown us is that he wants to be president. Very much. (And–P.S.–how will a Mitt Romney presidency differ from a Mitt Romney governorship? If he caved on his values then to be electable, what makes people think he won’t cave now? He’s been playing the “electable” game for the last few years–thus the hesitation to take strong stands. So more than likely, he’s already very mindful of the sort of games he will have to play to pacify the more liberal among us and win a second term.)
And that brings me to this post and this ad by Rick Perry. For the life of me, I do not understand the tremendous aversion people seem to have to this man. Is he perfect? No. But his “major” issues do not raise questions about what Republicans stand for. (And for those who think he is anti-capitalist for going after Bain…come on…really? Really? You don’t think he’s just trying to attack a political opponent whose business dealings have not been properly brought to light (for good or ill)–an opponent who has based a large part of his claim to being qualified to run the country on his success in business? You really think he will, if given power, gleefully destroy the free market?)
Anyway…my point…if we nominate Perry, my liberal friend would still mock us terribly and go on and on about what a nightmare of a country the USA would become under a conservative president. But the Republican party would make sense again, and what we stand for–patriotism, freedom, the protection of the unborn, fiscal sanity, free market principles, strong national defense, etc.–would not be in question.
May God have mercy on our lost, lost Republican souls.

So republicans are getting behind the “electable” candidate…Not because of his principles, plans,or his record of governing. No they are getting behind him because he looks pretty good on TV even though nobody really believes him or what he’s saying.
Romney will lose to Obama because Obama will take the Texas economy and fold it into his national numbers and take credit for it telling Americans he’s improving the country.
Fact : Texas created 200,000 jobs in 2010 and for the last 9 months was the only state to add jobs every month. Every state that has adopted their own version of the Texas Model is seeing job growth. This will become…
Obama: “Folks We are turning things around. We created 200,000 jobs in 2010 and have been adding jobs every month for the last 9 months, I just need more time…Don’t let Wall St. buy the White House”
In this economy Romney has as much chance of beating Obama as Hoover did beating FDR in 1932. But Romney has money and I guess it’s his turn or something…at least that’s how the Bushes see it.
Rick Perry isn’t a celebrity personality or a fancy lawyer or some pampered wealthy scion on a mission to redeem Daddy.
He’s a regular guy who worked his way up from a cotton farm to a state college to the Air Force. He partnered with his Dad to buildup their farm to ranching. He served Texas in the legislature and found he had a knack for common sense politics geared toward budgets. He served Texas as agriculture commissioner and served as Lt. Governor under Bush. Back then the saying in the Bush faction was that Perry is dumb but has good hair. The saying in the Perry faction was W (who had no real accomplishments except the luck of being born into a wealthy family) pretended to be the native son of Texas Perry actually was. Texans knew Bush used the governor’s chair as a launch pad to the WH and they also knew that to a guy like Perry being Governor of Texas was the most honorable job a native son of Texas could want.
When W left to go to DC Perry led the legislature toward conservatism eventually leading a majority sweep in in both houses in 2010. Perry earned the wrath of the Bush Machine by openly criticizing NCLB, Medicare part D, congressional spending and W’s abandonment of the Texas Border tat caused a series of border crisis that led the Texas Caucus to plead for Bush to stop poaching our agents in 2003.
Perry made the tough political decisions and saved the Rainy Day Fund from depletion forcing the largest budget cuts since WWII. He championed a BBA in the constitution and Tort reform. As a result Texas grew while the rest of the nation withered. Texas had it’s S&P credit rating upgraded while the nation was downgraded and Perry’s leadership with the legislature was cited as the reason.
I watched the way Gov. Perry led Texans during Hurricane Katrina and was so proud of my fellow Texans as we opened our resources, schools, homes, churches and workplaces to our neighbors to help them rebuild their shattered lives and remind them that we stand together. Nobody seemed to care much about us during hurricane Ike because the nation was too busy hating Bush but Texans got to work and we are still rebuilding. In Dallas/Ft. Worth we were still helping victims from Hurricane Gustav…But Texans under Rick Perry evacuated patients to San Antonio and Austin as residents headed to Dallas or hunkered down in Houston. Perry kept the national press at bay as Texans rescued survivors and brought in the bodies because Perry knew Texans didn’t want to see bodies of neighbors on TV which had happened during Katrina and can demoralize people when they need to be strong together.
I know this is a long post but your blog inspired me. I’ve seen my governor in action. I’ve seen him direct emergency efforts and offer comfort to Wild Fire victims. I’ve seen him install innovations to make Texas along with Tennessee top the nation in government transparency so voters know what is goin on. I’ve seen him challenge the state schools to make college more affordable for Texans and hold their faculty and budgets accountable. I’ve seen him stand for veterans.
I’ve seen him lead the legislature and sometimes he loses a battle or two but he more often wins the right battles. It’s been tough watching him mocked by the nation for his accent, plainspoken ways, gaffes, faith and forthright policies but Perry doesn’t have a glass jaw…He’s tough. He’s a Texan.
He has the best plans and record and a solid life and no matter what Americans decide I’m grateful he’s in there fighting…Because he is one of us…a plain spoken regular guy who made good and gave back. For that Rick Perry does Texas Proud and as a descendant of Sam Houston no native son could ask for more than that.
Thank you so much for that comment.
That was a great post about Rick P.

I like Rick Perry also. Not sure how he can get back. I am really disgusted with the Romney campaign and the media in general. They are setting us up for a failure. Romney is the weakest candidate in my opinion. But then again people like us have been watching what is going on for the past 3 years. This is probably not true of the general population.
Yep, they had this all figured out back before Rick Perry got in.
Huntsman just dropped and is endorsing Romney as “the most electable”. Does that mean he has sharp creases in his fricken pants? I hate these corrupt people – I hate having our minds made up for us by the establishment. We must find a way to stop this.
LF,
You there? What do you think is going on, this is at Drudge:
NETWORK HOLDS BOMBSHELL CAMPAIGN INTERVIEW
Never mind. I know now, and I did know that he had run around on this wife.
Yes, unless there is some crazy new stuff, it just looks to be old news being rehashed in front of a camera. She needs to move on with her life now.
It’s not something new…. we already knew this. He’s repented, moved on. I’m so disgusted right now, LF. The fact that abc is showing it tells me that it’s pure trash. They never show BO and his escapades.
And they never will. They don’t really touch Romney either……………………
